California Fractional Gold
1872 25C Liberty Round 25 Cents, BG-815, High R.7 -- Planchet Crack at 9 O'Clock -- MS62 NGC. The very rare BG-815 shares the same obverse die with BG-814 and BG-816 but the lapped reverse die is unique to the present variety. It is identified by two berries inside each side of the wreath. This is only the second time we have offered this rare California fractional at public auction in the past 23 years. This piece is distinguished by an irregular die lamination at 9 o'clock on the obverse rim and corresponding area on the reverse. The surfaces are muted orange-gold and a few scattered abrasions account for the grade.
