LYCIAN DYNASTS. Kherei. Ca. 410-490 BC. AR stater (20mm, 8.49 gm, 12h). NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 4/5. Head of Athena left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with spiral palmette and three olive leaves / KHERÊI in Lycian script, Headed of Kherei right, with long beard, wearing kyrbasia, all within incuse square. Mørkholm & Zahle II 55 (same dies). Sunrise 80 (this coin). cf. SNG Copenhagen Supp. 452. Extremely rare variety! Edge splits, minor weakness of strike in center, otherwise an attractive piece possessing a remarkable Satrapal portrait.
