Lower Canada. Anonymous "Pure Copper Preferable to Paper" copper 1/2 Penny Token ND (c. 1815) MS64 Brown PCGS, Breton-1009 (R1½), Charlton AM-4. Thick flan, medal rotation variety. Obv. Figure with top-hat and tails, holding club and flowers. Rev. PURE-COPPER-PREFERABLE-TO-PAPER. A very pleasing and sharply struck issue, featuring rich red-brown surfaces and a brilliant underlying luster. Originally struck for use in Ireland, these interesting pieces later found their way to Lower Canada, and also to the United States. Scarce in this Choice condition.
