Republic "Centered Y" Volcano Peso 1817 XF45 NGC, Santiago mint, KM82.1. An impressive and rare example of this popular type, featuring a smoking volcano on the obverse and the 'Y' of the legend centered on the reverse. Believed to have been struck for just about a month as the assayer then reversed his loyalties. With so few known, this issue is highly collected in all grades, but especially so in this attractive, gently handled condition, with a pleasing cabinet tone and a light russet hue around the devices.
