Essequibo & Demerary
British Colony. George III gilt-copper Proof Stiver 1813 PR63 Cameo NGC, London mint, KM10a, Prid-29b. Featuring a superb strike, as is normal for Royal Mint special issues, along with heavily frosted devices and fully mirrored fields. A number of small contact marks are observed on both sides, and likely prevent a higher grade; however, these early "gilt" issues are quite rare, with only two examples certified by NGC. Pridmore states in his description of the Gilt Stiver, "The gilt proofs are one of the few examples of R.M. strikings in that metal. There is no record of the striking of gilt proofs in the R.M. after 1821." Engaging and rare as such.
