Louis XV gold 1/2 Louis d'or 1717-A MS64 NGC, Paris mint, KM429.1, Fr-451. A spectacular survivor in all regards, featuring the seven-year old portrait of Louis XV and crowned arms with lis in angles. The surfaces are outstanding--coated in a satin sheen, and in the most attractive shade of honey gold--while the impressive design illustrations are the definition of bold, with each curl atop the King's hair fully detailed and raised. A few stay handling marks in the lustrous fields are all that preclude the Gem designation, but even so, this selection has been dutifully cared for over the past several centuries, and is likely among the finest of this one-year type. Destined to be the centerpiece in a cabinet comprised of high-end French gold, and as such, worthy of great attention.

From the Bern Collection

Estimate: 5000-6000 USD
