Louis XV gold Louis d'or 1740-E MS62 NGC, Tour mint, KM513.7, Fr-464, Gad-341. A scarce offering from the Tour mint, featuring a boldly-styled portrait of the King surrounded by lightly-toned outer registers. A few light grazes across the obverse portrait and a scattering of ticks are all within the confines of the assigned grade. Presently the only certified example of this date/mintmark combination, and with a scant mintage of just 5,517 pieces, worthy of much attention.
