Republic silver Specimen Pattern 50 Centimes 1897 SP63 PCGS, Paris mint, KM-Unl, Gad-Unl, Maz-2830 (R4). 29mm/12g. Lettered edge. Sharply defined with delicate pastel tone over both sides and only light handling over the surfaces. An intriguing and apparently extremely rare pattern for this issue, struck in the standard silver composition, and essentially of the same design (with the exception of a cornucopia and owl privy mark flanking the '50' in the denomination), but translated onto a significantly larger 29 millimeter module instead of the 18 millimeter size of the circulating coinage. As such, quite possibly a pattern made with the intention of eventually striking in bronze or nickel composition. The first we have seen, very desirable as such and certain to attract significant attention.
