Charles I (1625-1649) gold Double Crown 1636-1638 MS61 PCGS, Tower mint under the king, Tun over Portcullis? mm, S-2703, N-2168. A nicely toned piece, softly lustrous with a typically crude strike. The obverse is a little weak but the reverse arms are quite bold. The mintmarks appear to be a tun engraved over the portcullis, but the definition is poor and so this attribution lacks certainty.
