George II gold 1/2 Guinea 1731 MS63 NGC, Royal mint, KM565.2, S-3681A. Lustrous and attractive, there are a number of minuscule annealing marks in the fields that should not be mistaken for surface defects. This is certainly among the finest known examples of this difficult type; it certainly ranks as by-far the highest graded example to have sold in auction in recent memory. We last sold one of these in January, 2016, where an NGC AU58 hammered at $2,400. It is also noteworthy that this is the only Mint State example seen by either NGC or PCGS.
Estimate: 4500-5500 USD
