Westminster Fire Office gold Proof Medal "1717" (1817) PR63 Deep Cameo PCGS, MI-437/38 (Plate CXLII, No. 8). Minted in gold only for the directors and auditors of the Westminster Fire Office, an apparent two-year appointment as all other extant examples we have located bear a similar term, this piece was awarded to Henry Robins, Esquire, whose term of office as director lasted through the years 1816 and 1817. The medal itself exhibits deeply mirrored fields with frosty devices and few wispy surface marks. The engraving to personalize the medal has been professionally accomplished, clearly inscribed in a fine hand. This lot includes the original red leather case of issue as well as the fitted copper shells.
Estimate: 3500-4000 USD
