William IV Proof 1/2 Crown 1831 PR64+ Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM714.1, S-3834A. Plain edge, block WW on truncation of neck. An impressive piece, with deeply toned surfaces and flashy fields, and delicately frosted devices. It has been quite some time since we sold a coin of this type in such quality; though we did sell an NGC PR65 in January, 2014 as part of the Eric P. Newman Collection (where it hammered for $4,750), that piece did not possess the desirable "Cameo" designation. As such, though that piece may have bene the technical superior of the one on offer here, this coin is arguably the more desirable because it possesses such a nice cameo effect. Perhaps only the hammer will decide!
