Great Britain
Victoria "C by Lighthouse" 1/2 Penny 1862 XF45 PCGS, Royal mint, KM748.2, S-3956, Freeman-288A (R19; 2-5 extant). 'C' Die Marker by Lighthouse. An extremely rare variety of the date with the addition of a 'C' near the lighthouse behind Britannia on the reverse. One of the very few we have seen, and of the three major varieties of the date (there are also dies marked 'A' and 'B'), this type is accompanied by the highest value (£2750 in VF) in the Standard Catalogue of British Coins. The coin itself is rather pleasing, and possibly conservatively graded, with no major instances of contact, pleasing remaining detail and remnants of mint red around the protected areas. For the specialist, an important opportunity.
