British India. George V (VI) copper-nickel Proof Pattern 2 Annas Mule 1937-(c) PR63 NGC, Calcutta mint, Prid-1094, SW-8.219. A very rare pattern issue featuring a 1936 obverse of George V paired with a 1937 reverse of George VI, presumably because the latter ruler's obverse dies had not yet arrived at the mint. The present example exhibits attractive tone: cool gray with a warm golden-mauve clinging to the devices. Some wispy lines are noted throughout the fields but stand out little without the aid of a glass.
