Ferdinand VII "Large Bust" 8 Reales 1809 LM-JP MS61 NGC, Lima mint, KM106.1, Cal-473. A scarce type, especially at the Mint State grade, with the present coin showcasing all the attributes of a bold strike, Ferdinand's imaginary bust being sharply detailed and the corresponding pillars and crowned shield of Spain on the reverse displaying similarly crisp definition. The addition of shimmering luster and light golden tone adds additional positive character to the appearance. The finest known Lissner Collection example of this date, graded MS64 by NGC, brought an impressive $17,000 hammer in that 2014 sale, and while we expect this choice MS61 to remain much more affordable, that realization should certainly give an indication of the high demand for premium examples of this type.
