Salzburg. Johann Ernst 1/2 Taler 1694 MS67 NGC, KM253. A type that can be found at various levels of Mint State, but in the as-of-yet unseen MS67 level, this selection appears to be the first offered. The reverse features Saints Rupert and Virgil in full definition, with even, slate-gray tone brightened by moments of rose and gold color. The complimentary reverse matches the needle-sharp strike of the obverse, but shows an argent center and delicate notes of iridescence at the outer register. Essentially as struck, with a marvelous untouched flan, likely to remain in a technical class of its own for quite some time.
Estimate: 2000-3000 USD
