João V gold 12800 Reis 1733-M MS65 NGC, Vila Rica mint, KM139, LMB-O288. A scarcer date for this highly coveted gold type and particularly notable as the first Mint State example that we have offered of the date. To be not only Mint State however, but a full Gem is almost unbelievable. A well-struck example, both sides are bathed in fully dazzling luster and the color is bright and even throughout. Even more impressive is the preservation of the surfaces, with no marks that take the eye's focus, a nearly miraculous feat for such a massive gold coin. As one might expect, unsurpassed in grade at NGC, with a single other coin at the same grade. Those two, perhaps preserved together for ages, represent the finest examples graded for any Brazilian Dobra. As such, a highly important opportunity for the collector, as the opportunity to acquire a world-class, and perhaps finest extant representative of such an elusive and historic type doesn't come often.
