Fernando VI gold 8 Escudos 1754 So-J MS61 NGC, Santiago mint, KM3, Onza-648. Well-centered on the flan and pleasingly toned with bold legends that retain impressive flash; evidence of handling is very light and evenly spread over the surfaces. While somewhat common on issues of this period, a die bulge (as made) to the right of Ferdinand's face is observed, and adds another element of uniqueness to the appearance. Overall, a highly attractive example of this early Chilean milled issue, and as noted in the description for the last example of this date we offered, "an issue not represented in the "La Luz" shipwreck and thus virtually unobtainable in Mint State."  The combined NGC and PCGS census data for this date appears to bear that out as well, with this piece being the only example to cross the Mint State threshold.

Estimate: 4000-6000 USD
