Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1817/8 So-FJ MS63 NGC, Santiago mint, KM78, Fr-29. An intriguing and rare overdate, likely created when the die sinker placed the digit for a later dated coin -- 181(8) -- prior to noticing the mistake and correcting it by entering a 7 over the 8 in the die. Rather choice as an example of the date as well, with incredibly fresh luster on both sides. A light wipe of little visual consequence in the obverse fields and an as-made planchet flaw (an issue that commonly plagues these issues) in the center of the reverse prevents a finer grade.
