Republic Tuan Chi-jui gold Dollar ND (1924) MS62 NGC, L&M-1097, Kann-1577, KM-Pn73. An imposing gold striking of this popular dollar that features the bust of Tuan Chi-jui and was struck in celebration of the "peaceful unification" of China. Befitting a coin struck for commemorative purposes, the production standards were obviously rather high, with expertly accomplished engraving over both sides, and prooflike fields indicative of striking from a finely prepared die. Often distributed to families of high ranking political significance, many examples over time were handled quite carelessly, with abrasive cleaning being a common accompaniment. The present example has managed to avoid many of the typical condition pitfalls however, with only light, blended handling in the fields and attractive orange-gold toning highlights around the raised devices that suggest ages of undisturbed storage. Upon magnified inspection, a small as-made depression is observed in Tuan Chi-jui's head and should serve helpful for future identification. All considered, a coin that not only displays elegant physical beauty, but is also of great numismatic importance.

Estimate: 25000-35000 USD
