Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1804 P-JF MS64 Prooflike NGC, Popayan mint, KM62.2, Onza-1067. An enchanting near-Gem example of this often-circulated issue. Struck from impressively fresh dies, the surfaces are immediately identifiable as fully prooflike with impressive radiance resulting from the reflectivity in the fields. From these reflective fields, the design rises to rare completeness, with sharply detailed centers and coarsely defined dentilation at the far edges. A small notch is observed in the planchet at 12 o'clock, which is often the sign of past usage in jewelry, but close inspection confirms the present depression is nothing more than planchet irregularity. Almost certainly the finest example of this date extant and among the very finest surviving examples for the entire type, with no examples certified MS65 by NGC or PCGS.
