Republic gold Proof 4 Pesos 1916 PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC, Philadelphia mint, KM18, Fr-5. Mintage: 10. An incredibly rare proof date, with full originality throughout, the surfaces displaying vibrant tone that thicken at the edges from years of careful storage and the central motifs holding impressively thick frost that sharply contrasts with the fields. While really only evident upon magnified inspection, a few trivial wisps account for the grade, while a small spot behind Jose Marti's neck and a speck of foreign debris to the right of the first 6 in 6.6872 G confirm this as the Pittman coin. With the aforementioned legendary pedigree, and as the single finest example graded with the Ultra Cameo designation, quite possibly the most desirable survivor of this prohibitively rare issue.
