Republic 4 Reales 1841 QUITO-MV MS65 NGC, Quito mint, KM24. Lettered Edge; Three Arrows, Two Shafts variety. The epitome of original and extremely rare quality for the issue, featuring a strike that is as boldly executed as we've seen on this always-crude issue and a mask of greenish-yellow patina over both sides that transitions to a deeper russet and brown color at the edges. Further inspection shows no major marks and a small pocket of brilliance over the right cornucopia reveals the impressive underlying shimmer. Easily the finest example of the type graded to date, and reportedly once noted by Latin American specialist Freeman Craig as the finest example he had observed. Undoubtedly an exciting opportunity for the specialist.
