Ecuador
Republic gold 4 Escudos 1836 QUITO-FP MS63 NGC, Quito mint, KM19. In all likelihood, the very finest survivor of this rare 4 escudos date, with surfaces free from the heavy marks and highpoint wear that so often adorn this type, and are instead caressed by effulgent mint bloom throughout. Even more impressive is the strike, the central design having been boldly placed and the peripheral lettering rising to prominence. As is often seen on Ecuadorian issues of the period, a small flan flaw is observed near the mint's name, Quito, on the reverse, but given that it doesn't impede with the mountains or charming zodiac rainbow and radiant sunface, we see this as only a minor fault. In this Select Mint State grade, a coin that should obviously appeal greatly to the specialist in the series, but is also a major candidate to attract significant attention from the advanced collector of world-class gold type.

Estimate: 10000-15000 USD
