Napoleon 5 Francs L'An XI-MA (1802/1803) MS64 NGC, Marseille mint, KM650.5. A beautifully preserved specimen that retains full originality. Both sides are drenched in varying shades of teal, gold, and lilac, with moments of the untoned planchet showing argent luster at the legends. The focus remains the obverse portrait of Napoleon, fully struck and with superb detailing throughout his visage. The reverse designs are equally choice, with just a touch of softness noted at the center, and the amount of luster that still manages to break through the patina and brighten the fields is substantial. A scarce, singular issue struck at the Marseille mint, rarely offered, and bordering on Gem.
