Napoleon 5 Francs 1806-A MS65 NGC, Paris mint, KM673.1, Gad-581. Of immense quality, and certainly among the finest survivors of this date, with an evenly placed strike over both sides and immediately noticeable prooflike gleam in the fields that serves to enlighten the overlying tone. And the tone, rivaling a work of art in its engaging appearance, is truly astounding, as shades of auburn, blue, green, gold and gray cling to the raised surfaces in areas and intermingle in others. One of only two Gems graded by NGC, the other example previously selling in our January 2014 auction (lot 23553) for $15,275. An amazing coin!
