French Cochin China
French Colony Proof 50 Cents 1879-A PR65 NGC, Paris mint, KM6, Lec-25. A lovely presentation strike from this French colony that lasted from the early 1860s through World War II, but only struck coins for a short period between 1875 and 1885. Because of this, nearly all issues are highly regarded by collectors, with strong interest coming not only from French Colonial specialists, but also from collectors of Vietnam where this colony is now a part of. Proofs are held in even higher regard because of their tiny mintages. A beautiful Gem, this proof is blanketed in deep olive-brown patina, with instances of bright blue, yellow and orange-gold iridescence when tilted beneath a light. Beneath the tone, natural die polish lines are observed, and the surfaces remain nearly as-made. All told, a fully original coin and a phenomenal rarity; a piece that is certain delight.
