Hesse-Cassel. Friedrich II Taler 1766-FU MS66 NGC, KM485, Dav-2302. An incredibly well-preserved representative of this famed "Blood Taler", so named because it was used as payment to the Hessian soldiers fighting the fledging American army during the Revolutionary War. The broad surfaces on this piece immediately entrance the viewer, with a base of dove-gray color highlighted by flecks of amber at the edges, and full-bodied bloom that emerges from the fields, surrounding the central motifs in a fantastic array of light. Both the obverse and reverse are gifted with a superior strike, presenting sharp, raised detail at every turn, with just a touch of softness noted at the centers. An altogether beautiful offering in an state of near-perfection that will be hard to match, currently the finest certified example of this one-year type.

Estimate: 4000-5000 USD
