Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig IV gold Proof 20 Mark 1892-A PR65 NGC, Berlin mint, KM365, Jaeger-221. One-year type. A rarity in proof format, with pinpoint sharpness and delicate frost over the raised devices that if not for a touch of starburst flecking in the fields, would be strong enough to allow for the Cameo designation. The fields are essentially free of any hairlines from improper handling, although several contact ticks on Ludwig's portrait and in the right obverse field help to account for the grade. One of only two examples of this date certified at this Gem grade by NGC, with the other example selling in our offering of the Kaiser Collection (8/2015) for $12,925.

Estimate: 7000-9000 USD
