Regensburg. Free City gold Ducat 1649 MS66★ NGC, KM119, Fr-2469a, Pax in Nummis-146. An historic issue, struck in celebration of the Peace of Westphalia that ended the Thirty years War, and endlessly sought by collectors today not only for the occasion it marks, but also the obverse's pictorial rendering of Noah's Ark on stormy seas with a dove and rainbow above. While survivors tend to be nicely preserved when compared to other ducat's of the period, few examples could possibly compare to this sensational premium Gem. Placed on a broad flan, the surfaces remain free from all but the most microscopic forms of handling with fields that possess fully shimmering luster. The strike is also notable with a crisp rendering of the all-important biblical scene; all factors combined create an absolute marvel to view. Extremely rare this fine, and the single finest example graded by either NGC or PCGS. Undoubtedly bound for a world-class cabinet.
