Saxony. Friedrich August III Taler 1770-EDC MS66+★ NGC, KM992.1, Dav-2690. A prized specimen in all regards, with a deeply impressed obverse strike that renders the portrait of the King soaring off the flan, and the seemingly concave fields cradling his effigy. The reverse crowned arms are especially engaging, with a mixture of frosty details and satin textures that weave throughout the centers. The overall tone on this lustrous crown still shimmers an argent-gray, while notes of champagne blush the surfaces rather delicately. As is noted by the insert, a star and plus designation are given to this Taler, and rightly so, considering the spectacular eye-appeal and technical quality this crown offers. Very scarcely offered so fine, and currently the only certified example of this date by NGC.
