George II Crown 1747 MS65+ NGC, Royal mint, KM575.2, S-3687, ESC-123. Roses reverse - "D. Quarto" edge type. A sensational survivor and worthy candidate of the finest-certified specimen, this selection is the epitome of originality, showing a full palette of tone that accents the central motifs in golden hues and deepens to a splendid gray at the edges. More intricate inspection of this jewel confirms everything suggested by the grade, with crisp detailing from center to edge and hardly a mark to be found. The centers, largely dove-toned at first inspection, are actually composed of a mixture of multicolored iridescence that reveals itself nicely when rotated beneath a light. Minuscule "haymark" flecks, typical on coinage of this era, are of little concern. Of the 20 examples deemed Mint State by NGC and PCGS, this example is the only piece to reach the Gem (MS65 or finer) plateau--a significant milestone and as such, reason for significant collector attention.
