Great Britain
Victoria gold Proof Pattern 2 Florin (4 Shilling) 1868 PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC, Royal mint, W&R-373 (R5) reeded edge (incorrectly labeled on the insert). By William Wyon. Eye appeal abounds on this magnificent little numismatic jewel. The viewer is immediately drawn to the centers--which are heavily frosted and sit in total contrast to the sparkling mirrors--and upon closer review, the intricacies of a near-perfect strike are revealed. Essentially pristine, low-lying fields appear free of any noticeable flaws, while an intense amount of flash easily illuminates the designs. So incredibly preserved is this offering, that it has received an esteemed level of certification.

This particular issue was conceived in the late 1860s, at which time various countries were trying to come up with a gold coin to compete with the French 5 Francs. Under William Wyon, Great Britain designed this lovely, gold "Double-Florin" which stated its intention to circulate internationally on the reverse. Unfortunately, it never got further than a number of Pattern coins.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
