Republic silver Specimen Pattern 4 Reales 1895 H-CB SP66 NGC, Heaton mint, KM-Pn15. An extremely rare pattern for this never-issued date, the design resembling the earlier pesos (KM208), but the engraving of Liberty being accomplished with far finer aesthetics. Preserved is essentially as-made condition, the obverse surfaces appear mostly gray when viewed straight ahead, but when tilted to the slightest degree, an explosion of mesmerizing blend of yellow, rose, lilac and blue color penetrates one's eye. On the reverse, a different, yet still highly alluring arrangement of color exists, with crisp yellow and gold patina in the centers and blue and mauve compliments at the rims. Even with the envelope of tone, both sides retain strong underlying reflectivity as is commonly associated with proof or specimen strikings. By far the finest example of only two that we have seen, and considering the provenance, a worthy candidate for an advanced cabinet of Central American issues.
