Italy
Cisalpine Republic. Revolutionary State Scudo of 6 Lire Anno VIII (1800) MS67 NGC, Milan mint, KM-C2, Dav-199, MIR-477. A sensational Superb Gem of this single-year type, created as a propagandistic commemorative to celebrate the French "liberation" of this northern Italian region by Napoleon's forces. Struck in quality that might be confused for a proof, the rendering of its masterful engraving was done to pinpoint specifications, with the two allegorical figures (representing France and Cisalpine) having been accomplished in high artistic fashion. In the fields, obvious reflectivity dominates, with several ghosted appearances of planchet adjustments on the reverse that were made prior to striking, but no observed contact marks. An obvious cabinet piece, the acquired toning only pushes the appearance to further stratospheric heights, showcasing light grays in the centers with gorgeous golds that impart a glowing appearance to the raised design. For the collector of Italian or Napoleonic coinage, a coin of immeasurable desirability.

Estimate: 6000-9000 USD
