Papal States. Sede Vacante 1/2 Scudo 1829-B MS67 NGC, Bologna mint, KM1302, B-3264. Visually superb, complete with stunning cabinet patination that handsomely covers both sides and beautifully rendered devices that easily entertain the eye for a sustained amount of time. In taking a closer look, the obverse features the personification of the Church seated in the clouds holding a cross, with a papal crown to her side and the facade of a church in the background. The reverse is equally involved, displaying the arms of the camerlengo surmounted by crossed keys and canopy, with a dove flying above extended rays. Once in hand, gleaming, champagne luster illuminates the dove-gray surfaces, and despite a few light adjustment marks and faint die cracks, (all of which fall under the category of character building), this well-preserved conditional rarity remains the finest certified example of the type.

Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
