Papal States. Sede Vacante Scudo 1830-B MS66 NGC, Bologna mint, KM1311. Outstanding in all regards, with a base of warm, steel-gray tone and an obverse highlighted by shimmering golden hues at the center, setting the radiant dove aglow, surrounded by radial patterns of magenta and teal that create a beautiful bezel around the legends. The reverse shows the same shades of iridescence, although in a much bolder fashion, drenching the papal arms in blazing color. As one would expect at the Gem level, the fields are fresh aside from a stray mark here and there, and the designs are noticeably bold for the issue. A coin that could easily be awarded a star for its visual presentation, very much a stunner from all angles, and sure to impress the viewer thusly.
