Sardinia. Carlo Emanuele III Scudo 1757 MS66 NGC, KM-C20, Dav-1494, MIR-946c. A crown of immense originality that is truly hard to believe and of the greatest rarity, with obviously fresh surfaces over which a thin veil of pale yellow-greenish patina sits, this arrangement often being associated with ages of peaceful cabinet storage. Adding further to its charming character, small patches of meandering rainbow patina are observed over both sides with striking detail that has been confidently formed. Inspection with a loupe resoundingly confirms the true quality, with a single flyspeck mark to the left of Carlo Emanuele's bust being the only visually relevant instance. Absolutely a candidate for the finest we've observed of the type, with no other examples of the date even coming close. While not a surprise in the least, its finest-graded status at NGC should serve as a bonus for the collector.
