Meiji Yen Year 27 (1894) MS67+ NGC, KM-YA25.3. A miraculous survivor that likely went straight from the mint into a coin cabinet. The obverse center remains argent white while the upper right quadrant shows a crescent of russet color that has begun to encircle the legends. The reverse surface is almost entirely coated in a layer of champagne, with a darker ring of amber that completely haloes the rim. Both sides are impeccable--just as the designation suggests--with smooth, satin-dressed fields that are nearly flawless in their presentation and design elements that are essentially as struck, with soaring highpoint detail noted throughout. For reference, the last example we sold that neared this quality (PCGS MS67) hammered for $25,000 in our 2011 Long Beach sale. As such, this certified pinnacle rarity is fully deserving of a winning bid that surpasses our high estimate.
Estimate: 10000-15000 USD
