Carl XIV Johan Speciedaler 1844 MS63 NGC, Kongsberg mint, KM313, Dav-242. A captivating type, featuring a rather stately mature bust of Carl XIV Johan, that was only struck for one year as a result of the king's passing on March 8, 1844. Among the finest we've seen, with a strike that has rendered the design detail sharp to its highest points and surfaces that have obtained only a few marks. The eye-appeal is further enhanced by semi-prooflike gleam in the fields and a layer of tone that is mostly gold on the obverse and explodes with vibrant multicolored iridescence on the reverse. All considered, an undeniably great representative of the type.
