Carl XV Speciedaler 1861 MS64 NGC, Kongsberg mint, KM323, Dav-244, Ahlstrom-1B. The rare first date of this two year type, and conditionally, perhaps a singular coin without comparison. Enveloped in cabinet tone, the surfaces hold a mixture of rose, tan and gray over the obverse with the addition of blue patina around reverse design. Under this layer of originality, the luster remains quite apparent, with more concentrated inspection confirming surfaces, holding only light marks, but relatively few disturbances to the overall appearance, that fully merit the grade. A well-placed strike and a planchet free of defects further solidifies the lofty designation. Unmatched in grade at NGC or PCGS, with records of archives sales, of which there are scarcely few, revealing nothing even approaching direct comparison. Certainly of the highest rarity thus, and a worthy addition for a collection of the greatest echelon.
