Pretoria mint, KM-Pr1, Hern-P2. Mintage: 655 sets. One of the finest survivors of this first South African proof set, with the all-important gold pieces both grading as premium Gems (PR66) with the rare Cameo modifier, a designation that only one sovereign has received at NGC with seven total for the 1/2 sovereign (only one other example has graded PR66 Cameo with none finer). Interestingly, while the copper denominations were certainly part of the original proof set, NGC has chosen to give them the MS designation, since their surface quality (as was typically the case) resembles business strike coinage more than the typical proof appearance.

Estimate: 10000-15000 USD
