Philip V gold 8 Escudos 1701 S-M MS64 NGC, Seville mint, KM259, Onza-Unl. "VIII" Denomination; "PHILIPPVS V/II" variety. A very rare variety of this immensely desirable one-year design type that expresses the denomination in Roman Numerals (instead of the following type where "8"s are seen outside the quatrilobe's angles on the reverse), with the ordinal number of the pervious king, Charles II, visible beneath the V in PHILIPPVS V. Extremely rare quality as well, with rich orange-gold coloration and delicate luster over surfaces that are absent noteworthy marks or handling. Easily the finest example we've encountered of the type, as well as the single finest graded, with the intriguing over-ordinal in the king's name certainly helping to boost the desirability to even greater heights.
