Bern. Canton silver Proof Pattern 4 Franken 1826 PR65 NGC, KM-Pn24, Dav-371. Davenport estimates the mintage of this rare pattern at just 75 to 200, as the type was struck following a monetary conference held in Bern in 1825 between the cantons of Basel, Freyburg, Solothurn, Argau, and Vaud, but the respected European auction houses of Künker and Sincona list a mintage of only 75 examples for the issue. A beautiful piece, and as far as we can tell from our research, the only example to be sold publicly outside of Europe in at least a decade. Adorned in attractive cabinet toning and stunning mirror-like reflectivity in the fields. The bear on the obverse shield is especially attractive, with very subtly frosted devices that stand in lovely contrast to the background. We should note that in the last 6 years, only three different examples have sold publicly, with two of them selling for well in excess of $30,000. This shows not only the popularity of the type, but also its scarcity. We are thrilled to be handling a piece as beautiful as this, and expect its next owner will be as well.
Estimate: 20000-25000 USD
