Catherine I "Mourning" Rouble 1725 AU55 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bit-69 (R1), Diakov-3. The first Rouble issue of Catherine I after the death of Peter the Great. Obv. Portrait of Catherine I left, with plain mantle and without crown and order. Rev. Crowned double-headed eagle, with orb and scepter. An extremely rare issue and a type that is almost impossible to find in high grade. Lustrous, with some central softness and a minor reverse flan flaw on the eagle's breast. The finest example of this iconic type that we have seen and the single finest example certified by NGC. A piece fit for the most advanced collection.
