Peter III Rouble 1762 CПБ-HК MS64 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bit-11, Diakov-7 (R2), UZD-924, milled edge. Obv. Armored bust of Peter III right. Rev. Crowned double-headed eagle, with orb and scepter and date above. Well struck, and fully lustrous, with russet obverse toning and a full frosty reverse with a hint of golden patina. Extremely rare in this near-Gem condition, with none certified finer by either NGC, or PCGS.
Peter III was a short-lived Russian Emperor. Born in Holstein-Gottorp, and raised as a German, Peter was never truly accepted as Emperor and ruled for only six months ending in his assassination, possibly in a conspiracy led by his wife, Catherine II.
