Australia
Victoria gold 1/2 Sovereign 1860-SYDNEY AU55 NGC, Sydney mint, KM3, Fr-10. A prized rarity among Australian coins, presenting the youthful portrait of Victoria wearing a wild-flower crown, surrounded by fields that glow with rose-gold color. Even without the aid of magnification the obverse appears choice, with the Queen's facial features fully-rendered, and only a few areas of weakness noted to the strike. The reverse is equally complimentary and exhibits the same magenta-hued hue as its counterpart. In looking at the census reports, there are only three examples certified finer (all AU58 and all by PCGS), with no specimens graded at the Mint State level. As such, this minimally-worn and lightly-handled selection is wholly deserving of a bid that surpasses our high estimate.
