George V 2-Piece Certified 1/2 Penny & Penny Proof Set 1935,
1) 1/2 Penny - PR66 Red PCGS, KM22
2) Penny - PR66 Red and Brown PCGS, KM23
Melbourne mint. An amazing duo from a mintage of 100 coins each, with both denominations being worthy contenders for "finest known" status, and each presently being the finest graded by either PCGS or NGC. In hand, both reflect the quality suggested by their premium Gem grades, with virtually no evidence of past handling and the bright reflectivity that is customary of Australian proofs of the period. Light purple-hued tone over the penny resulted in the "Red and Brown" color modifier, but little to no brown color actually exists on the surfaces. For the collector of these elusive early proof, the opportunity to acquire such an immaculate pair should absolutely be celebrated.
