Ferdinand III gold 10 Ducat 1657 MS61 NGC, Vienna mint, KM996, Fr-209, Herinek-22. Johann Conrad Richthausen as mintmaster. A huge multiple-Ducat issue and very rare, made even more so by the Mint State designation. While many multiple Ducats were struck from Taler or Doppeltaler dies, this type appears to have been engraved specifically for the gold issue, as the fineness of the engraving exceeds nearly anything issued by the Vienna mint in silver during this period. The engraved details are superb throughout, with little cabinet friction to the high points and almost no striking weakness to be found. Accenting these details are bright fields, exhibiting light marks commensurate with the grade, but none egregious. The only flaw of note is a planchet flaw (as made) running from the "57" in the date down to the "X" of "DVX." This piece would be the last of any 10 Ducat issues of Ferdinand III as he died in April of 1657.

Estimate: 90000-100000 USD
