A coin with immense appeal, and rarely offered so choice, this large gold denomination features the thin bust of João V and sharp renderings throughout. The obverse presents a very attractive portrait of Sun King, along with trace evidence of friction, evenly distributed highpoint wear, and an overdate that is as bold as can be. A touch of excess metal in the legend and gathered moments of pockmarks only mildly impede the eye. The reverse is equally choice, with just a touch of softness noted, as well as mild adjustment marks that transverse the central design. Both sides exhibit light porosity in a granular fashion, fairly typical for the issue, and a sublime amount of lemon color that haloes the raised elements.
